The multimedia visitor center “Tsarevgrad Tarnov”, popular as the “museum of wax figures”, is located near the Tsarevets hill, in the very heart of the old capital city. There, historical figures and memorable events from the period of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom are presented in the form of sculptures and frescoes. The life of the different social strata in the medieval Bulgarian society – rulers, clergy, boyar and military stratum, craftsmen is visualized.
Visitors can experience the rich history of Tarnovo as a symbol of royalty, military glory and spiritual power.
The visitor center contains 29 sculptural figures spread over four floors. In the spring of 2023, with the realization of the expansion of the center on the third and fourth floors, the collection was enriched with 37 more figures. In this way, commemorative events from the period of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom are recreated.
The author of the concept of presenting historical figures is the sculptor Boris Borisov. Scenes from the Bulgarian Middle Ages and especially the greatness of Tarnovo during the reign of the Asenevtsi dynasty are recreated.
Visitors can also see the figures of Tsar Kaloyan and Tsar Ivan Asen II. The concept of the museum is developed in several main directions – presentation of royal and military glory, spirituality – the development of books, painting and crafts. Extremely interesting is the scene representing the capture of Baldwin of Flanders by Tsar Kaloyan.
The construction of the Multimedia Visitor Center is part of the project “Improvement of tourist attractions and related infrastructure in Veliko Tarnovo Municipality” under “Regional Development” programme 2007 -2013, worth BGN 6 750 000.

When booking, groups enter with an appointment reserved in advance, every 30 minutes
The guide service during the visit of the Multimedia Center is provided only by guides of the Regional Museum of History Veliko Tarnovo, upon prior request for the respective language and during the working hours of the site.
Visiting hours are fixed every half hour. The technological service time of a group is 1 hour.
The group may not exceed 15 people.
A group without a request is served only on a free schedule.
A group with an appointment and more than 15 minutes is not allowed at the site.
Maintenance of the site: every Monday from 9:00 to 12:00.
