The novel is a story about the generation that experienced two historical rifts: one – through the fate of their ancestors, the second – through their own lives. The place of the narration – as in Dobrotinov’s previous novel “The fireflies will show you the way” – is once again Tarnovo. And the monument with the mournful figure of Mother Bulgaria in the center of the city embodies the main themes in the novel – memory and the Motherland.
