In the play Dinner with Friends, Donald Margulies tells the story of two families of friends who are faced with an existential question: How do we move forward with our lives when the mundane routine has overwhelmed our feelings?
Of course, there is no single answer to this question. Everyone has the right to act as they see fit. Some choose “freedom,” others prefer to “carry the cross,” and some decide to start piano lessons.
When you think about it, there is something both funny and sad in all of this—just like Margulies’ play.
