The Day of the Summer Solstice and Medicinal Herbs is one of the biggest summer holidays in the Bulgarian traditional calendar. Enyovden draws its strength from ancient rituals related to people’s hopes for health, happiness, prosperity and fertility.
The holiday is celebrated at the Samovodska Bazaar. Traditionally, there will be a wreath with 77 fragrant herbs woven into it, which will be ritually smoked with embers of medicinal herbs, and then people will walk through it for health. For those who wish to keep the tradition and take home a sprig of the Enyov wreath, there will be small bouquets of medicinal herbs prepared in advance, which will be distributed on site.
