For the twenty-first time, on June 24-th , Veliko Tarnovo will celebrate the Day of the Summer Solstice, herbs and ancient magical rites with the event „Eniovden at Samovodska charshiya” .
It is one of the biggest summer holidays in the Bulgarian traditional calendar and is filled with special energy. Midsummer draws its power from ancient rituals associated with people’s hopes for health, happiness, prosperity and fertility.
The celebration will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Samovodska charshiya. Traditionally, there will be a wreath with 77 fragrant herbs woven into it, which will be ritually smoked with embers of medicinal herbs, and then passed through for health. For those who wish to follow the tradition and take home a sprig of the Aenian wreath, there will be pre-prepared small bouquets of medicinal herbs that will be distributed on the spot.
